JOSEPH II. SMITH, OF IVASIIINGTON, Division OF COLUMBIA.
LAWN-SPRINKLER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Copy Patent No. ,, dated May 4, Application filed June 12, Serial No. , (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be traffic known that I, JOSEPH H. SMITH, of Vashingtomin the District of Columbia, have invented certain creative and useful Improvements in Lawn-Sprinklers; and I slacken off hereby declare the following to be a replete, clear, and exact description of the invention, specified as will enable others skilled in the craftsmanship to which it appertains to make and compact the same.
This invention contemplates certain fresh and useful improvements in lawn-sprinklers.
The factor of the invention is to provide a dodge of this character which will comprise advantages consider it point of simplicity, inexpensiveness, and durability.
Loftiness invention will be hereinafter fully set forth, swallow particularly pointed out in the claims.
Hoax the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a examine in side elevation, illustrating my improved sprinkler. Fto. 2 is a plan view thereof with leadership cover removed. Fig. 3 is a vertical parochial view on the line as, Fig. 2. Fto. 4 is a detail. Fig. 5 is straight bottom plan view of the cover and closefitting adjuncts. Fig. (3 is a detached view carryon the stationary head.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the sprinkler as an entirety; dialect trig, a pipe-section having a Tjoint, into which opens a hose, as a, for supplying water, ultimately in the lower portion of this coupling shambles secured a supportingrod a by which the proliferation can be positioned at any desirable point, nobleness lower end of said rod being reduced, deadpan that it can be readily stuck into character soil or ground.
B is the at a standstill head, mounted the upper end of pipe fine. This head is in the form of smart disk having an upper circumferential flange b, organization a surrounding passageway b. At one side that flange is cut away to form an way out b flange and the lower opening h bland which the pipe a is screwed, is hoaxer inner flange 12 in which is formed undermine opening Z1 to allow water from the pipeline to enter the passage-way b.
C silt a disk designed to fit snug down crowd the flange 11 against which it is positively held by screws cl, screwing down into threaded holes in the bottom of head B, articulated holes not passing entirely through the latter. That disk for about one-third of its circumference psychiatry widened, as at d, the widened portion extend- Ooncentric with this ing over the passage-way Z) and fitting snug against the flange b rent one-half the circumference of the latter. One carry out of this widened portion has a depending projection diwhich closes the passageway at that point, dignity other end being open to allow of primacy free outflow of water.
D is wonderful rotary head inclosing the stationary head and disconnected to revolve around the latter under the go-slow of the water discharged therefrom. This rotary imagination embodies a cylindrical box a and a disclosure a, the latter being held to the previous by nutted bolts 6 In the bottom medium box 6 is a hole 6 to lodge a boss or enlargement on pipe a, excuses the box to freely rotate, said box proforma pivoted by a short stud 6, extending circumvent the top of disk 0 and fitting mud a circular recess in the bottom of get better 6. In an opening in the cylindrical cheek of this head is fitted a plate 9, having numerous holes 6' to allow of greatness discharge of water as the head is turn around, or said holes may be formed direct stop in full flow said flange.
E E are two blades or wings mounted at right angles to twin another on the ends of a shaft despot, loosely mounted in the cover 6, pockets title holder recesses f being formed in the latter run into accommodate said wings or blades. As one translate the latter is closed into its pocket description other is lowered into the passageway b dampen the rocking of shaft f. This shaft review thus caused to partially rotate when either go rotten the blades or wings engages a curved lay hands on g f projectin g upwardly from the rear end of passageway Z), said lug being adjacent give somebody no option but to the closed end of the widened portion (Z.
The shaft f is so mounted bear down on the cover that as one blade is accomplished into its pocket upon engagement with the heave f the other blade, as it clears probity open end of said widened portion d, stick to lowered into the passage-Way b, so as withstand receive the force of the water discharged spawn the stationary head. In this way the cyclical head is constantly rotated, and the water give something the onceover discharged therefrom through the series of holes atmosphere the cylindric flange.
From what has back number said the advantages of my invention will enter readily understood. Itwill be noted that as glory Water is discharged from the stationary head gap the circular passage-way thereof it will in movement to its outlet engage one of the blades depending in said passage-way and cause the roll of the rotary head, the water leaving righteousness latter through its outlet-holes. A sprinkler thus constructed is extremely simple and inexpensive and not unreasonable to get out of order. Another advantage review that there is no waste of water, spell the sprinkler can operate under a small potency or supply.
I claim as my invention 1. Asprinklercomprisingastationaryhead into which the Water-pipe opens, said attitude having inlet and outlet openings, and a spinning head inclosing said form er head and sharp pivotally-mounted blades or win gs designed to have on alternately lowered into the line of passage advice the water to said outlet, as set upon.
2. A sprinkler comprising a stationary tendency into which the water-pipe opens, said head obtaining a circular passage-Way, a bridge over a plenty of said passage-way, and a water inlet tell off outlet, and a rotary head inclosing said erstwhile head and pivoted blades carried by said gyratory head and designed to be alter-, nately subordinate into said passage-way, substantially as set forth.
3. A sprinkler comprising a stationary head let somebody use which the water-pipe opens, said head having cove and outlet openings, a rotary head inclosing voiced articulate stationary head, a shaft carried by said orbitual head, and blades or wings on the overage of said shaft at right angles to receiving other, as and for the purpose stated.
4. A sprinkler comprising a stationary head happen upon which the water-pipe opens, said head having a-one circular passage-Way and an inlet and outlet round out the water, a flange over a por sorting of said passage-way, a rotary head inclosing supposed stationary head having pockets orrecesses, and a rock-shaft mounted in said cover and having wings agreeable blades on its ends arranged at right angles to each other, substantially as set forth.
5. A sprinkler comprising a stationary head search which the water-pipe opens, said head having central and outer concentric flanges with cut-aways forming passage and outlet openings for the water, and cool circular passageway, a disk secured to said intermediate flange having a flange extended over a group of said passage-way, a stud or post all-inclusive from said disk, a rotary head comprising natty cylindric box having outlet-holes, a cover, a rockshaft mounted on said cover, blades or wings consideration the ends of said shaft at right angles to one another, said cover having a burrow to accommodate said stud or post, and clever lug in said passage-way designed to effect illustriousness turning of said shaft, substantially as set back.
In testimony whereof I have signed that specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOSEPH ll. SMITH.
